Mom Advice Central
I have rearranged my website so it is easier to browse. I need lots of parenting articles and stories, so if anyone out there has any good ideas that would like to spread to others let me know. I really need some on disciplining and health. Right now, if anyone contributes, you will get a free link to your website or blog on my home page. I am also having a forum contest, so if any moms are looking for new boards, feel free to join.
Other than that, I am a little disappointed. We didn’t get any rain from the hurricane, just a lot of wind. We missed the rain by about 30 miles. We really needed it.
Have a nice weekend everyone!

Sunlight and Sleeping
Is it hard to get your baby to sleep through the night? Well here is a new thought. Taking your baby outside or for a walk in the early afternoon may actually help her sleep at night. Researchers in the U.K. have compared babies that sleep well at night to those who don’t. They have found that babies who slept better at night at 6 weeks of age were exposed to twice as much light between noon and four pm as those who slept less well. They say that the increase in light plays a major role in the development in the area of the brain dealing with day-night rhythms.
Think about it. Darkness signifies nighttime and the time for sleep, whereas taking your baby out in the sunlight cues her to think, “It’s Daytime; Let’s wake up and be active.” So try to make time to bring your baby outside during the day to see if this helps. Baby Shower On A Budget
I was reading an article in a magazine the other day on throwing an extravagant baby shower. Well you know what? I have thrown some baby showers in my life and I have had 3 baby showers and two kids. I also have been to plenty of showers and have plenty of friends who have thrown them. Most of us mothers cannot afford to throw a baby shower like that. We need a way to learn how to throw a great baby shower on a budget. Sure we can have baby showers with unique themes and great decorations, but nobody should have to spend a whole bunch of money on something like that! That money should be going toward the mother-to-be and her new baby.

Baby Einstein Videos
My son just adores his Baby Einstein videos. They say not to let children watch Tv too much, but I don't see the harm in it. Ok. Well he doesn't like all of his movies. I have a 10 disc set and then one extra. He loves BABY MOZART the best. His next 2 favs are Baby Gallieo and Baby Neptune. He could care less about any of his other ones. It's so funny, he is so content when watching it. When he was 0-5 months he would just lie there. Then he would just sit there. Now that he can pull up on things, I have a hard time because he is always trying to grab the images off the tv. He gets so excited just to see the beginning credits because he knows what's coming on. "My Little Einstein Potato!"

SURVIVORS OF KATRINA
Well, I got to meet these people first hand yesterday. I went to the Salvation army here in Arlington....they were holding about 300 survivors, but then I went to Reunion Arena and the Convention Center in Dallas. They were holding THOUSANDS. I mean it was nuts there. They need more volunteers. I think I will go to a shelter in Fort Worth today and have some interviews. I am doing Freelance writing and didn't even realize it would be a good idea.
One guy was talking to me and said it was quote
"Like something out of The Twilight Zone" He kept repeating that over and over. He said people were fighting and dying right at his feet.
I also held a woman's baby that was only 4 weeks old. They had stood out in that for 3 days.
People were so thankful, yet acted as if they were scared of us. People were offering there homes and they wouldn't go. They were not stingy with donations at all.
There was a little girl, probably 7 years old begging her mom to let her have a shirt, and her mom kept saying no. We already got you some earlier.
After reunion arena...I went to a hotel that somebody had paid for 300 families to stay a whole month. They were saying they would never go back. There were plenty of people who had money, but just rode out the storm and ended up losing their cars and everything. Of came here for shelter from the storm and are now stuck....
I am telling you. They ALL need our help, so if you haven't donated please do.
The main thing is people are donating alot of used items..
The children need school supplies BAD SO many are waiting for that. Also they need clean undergarments. There are just not enough underwear and bras, and people seemed stressed over that. You would think Wal Mart would do something about that....anyway, just letting ya'll know.

Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
Did you know that children still drinking from a bottle anytime after their first birthday are likely to have tooth decay?
Baby Bottle Tooth Decay, also known as "Baby Bottle Syndrome", is a condition involving the rapid decay of many or all of the baby teeth. It occurs in children between 18 months and 3 years of age, and is the leading dental problem for children under 3 years of age.
The leading cause of Baby Bottle Tooth Decay is putting your baby to sleep with a bottle, which the baby can suck on for long periods of time. Baby Bottle Tooth Decay occurs when a child’s teeth are exposed to sugary liquids, such as formula, fruit juices, and other sweetened liquids for a continuous, extended period of time. It is best to take your baby off the bottle altogether after your child’s first birthday.
I took my first son off at one year. Yes, he cried and was not happy, but he got over it in a week. I had already been warned, but many parents don’t realize that it can really cause some damage to your child’s teeth. Getting them to drink out of a cup before the age of one will help with the weaning process. Another good idea is to offer water in the bottle, since it is the sugary liquid that flows over the baby’s upper front teeth and dissolves the enamel that can cause the infection. The longer you wait to take your child off the bottle, the more prone they are to having dental problems.
